Nearly €4.5 millions and 86% of lots sold at the Furniture & Works of Art sales of December

On 17th and 18th December 2024, Artcurial's Furniture & Works of Art department auctioned more than 400 pieces from prestigious historical collections. 86% of the lots sold for a total of €4,399,487, the department's highest result since its creation.

Three pre-emptions marked the evening sale on 17th December, with French cultural institutions hailing the museum quality of the works on offer. A pair of silver oil basins from the Penthièvre-Orléans royal service fetched €314,880, and will join the collections of the Louvre, while a Sèvres hard-paste porcelain biscuit figure of the Qianlong emperor was pre-empted by the Château de Versailles for €133,056.

The Musée National de la Renaissance preempted a marble relief attributed to Frémyn Roussel for €41,010. French goldsmiths and silversmiths, tableware and Russian goldsmiths all fetched high prices, with a Russian icon going for €223,040. In sculpture, an ivory Christ sold for €52,480, while a pair of bronze figures illustrating the Medici Venus and Antinous from the Belvedere changed hands for €62,882.
