Denise Bazetoux, Maximilien Luce. Catalogue de l'œuvre peint, tome III, Avril Graphique Editions, Paris, 2005, n° 46, reproduit en noir et blanc p. 63
When he painted this view of Paris in 1902, Maximilien Luce had decided to break away from strict pointillism by lengthening his brushstrokes somewhat. Moving from top to bottom along a fairly well ordered spectrum of light, Luce here uses a palette of luminous colours to depict the banks of the Seine in a style that was characteristic of modern painting at the beginning of the century.
