Fernand Tavano,

Fernand Tavano's racing career is awe-inspiring: the son of Italian immigrants born in the Sarthe region in 1933, he went on to enjoy an exceptional career in motor racing alongside his work as a bricklayer, driving for Ferrari from 1954 in a Ferrari 166 MM purchased from Luigi Chinetti. He took part in the most prestigious events, including 8 participations in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and was the first Sarthe driver to win his category. He was runner-up in the French Sports Car Championship in 1958, and French Mountain Champion in 1959 and 1960. The most emblematic Ferraris purchased from the scuderia passed through his expert hands: Ferrari 500 TR and TRC, 250 SWB, and two 250 GTOs.

The two lots of Borrani rims (lot 15 and lot 16 of the sale) that we are presenting here were entrusted to us by Fernand Tavano's daughter, after they were found in his garage.

The second bears the reference RW3526, measuring 16x5.50 and dated October 1959. It corresponds to the size of the first Ferrari 250 Berlinette SWBs, so it is most likely linked to his first 250 SWB, chassis 2001, with which he took part in the 1960 Le Mans 24 Hours and was 1960 French Mountain Champion.
