Known as an original and unusual machine, the Lorraine Type 72 was an off-road vehicle with 6 independent wheels (including 4 driven wheels), produced under Tatra license. Fitted with an equally astonishing 1910 cc air-cooled flat-four engine, it has a useful payload of 1.5 tons.
This particular example is a long-wheelbase version with a wooden cab and plateau. As stated in its old registration document, it was registered in October 1951 in Yvonne (a plate on the dashboard mentions a certain Mr. Roy in Gisy-les-Nobles) and then sold to a forestry operator in the same area in March 1964. Our collector acquired it from the latter’s widow in 1995 and was delighted to present it in original condition, alongside his other Type 72 (short wheelbase model which was restored). It has since remained in strictly original condition, apart from the engine which has been rebuilt. Considered as an incredible off-roader thanks to its 6 independent wheels, this highly rare utility vehicle is a refined alternative to its American Dodge counterparts.
