Comment:

Combining sacred geometry, cosmology and esoteric syllables (mantras), yantras serve as instruments of ritual contemplation, spiritual protection and meditation.

This yantra consists of an eight-petalled lotus enclosed within a triple square frame representing the walls of the samavasaraṇa. It thus combines a magical diagram with the theme of the Jina’s first sermon, delivered in an edifice constructed by the gods. The ground plan of the samavasaraṇa is square, and its three crenellated enclosures, each pierced by four gateways, are clearly delineated. At the centre of the lotus, which represents the interior of the edifice, an hexagram (Sanskrit: satkona) is inscribed, at the centre of which a Jina is seated.

Four goddesses are arranged around the lotus. In front of the walls of the samavasaraṇa, on either side, are two small pools, each flanked by two animals listening peacefully to the sermon.
