This car’s history and condition make it exceptional. Registered new on 26 October 1970 with the number 825 MX 26, it was only sold to its second, current owner on 26 June 2022, meaning that it spent 52 years with the same owner, covering just over 1,000 km! After being stored for many years in good conditions, in 2024 it benefitted from major recommissioning work carried out by the specialist AS Engineering at Martignat (Ain) for a total of some 32,000 €. The engine was completely overhauled and all the mechanical components (suspension, brakes and electrical system) thoroughly checked and refurbished, while the fuel tank was remade in aluminium. The car has an Abarth exhaust system, as fitted from new, and is from the second series, with a black louvred engine cover and sliding side windows.
This Fiat Lombardi 850 Grand Prix is thus in uniquely well-preserved condition, with its upholstery, interior trim,, dashboard and original instruments in near-new condition. It has well-adjusted panel gaps and alloy wheels with new tyres, while its lovely green paintwork, typical of its period, has never been redone.
This special model was developed by the coachbuilder Francis Lombardi and based on the Fiat 850, with styling by Giuseppe Rinaldi. Lower than an Alpine A110 berlinette, the Lombardi has a very streamlined body with pop-up headlamps and a cut-off Kamm tail. Its light weight (660 kg) makes it a lively, nimble car which is great fun to drive.
With only a few hundred built and eligible for various historic events including the Tour Auto and Monte Carlo Rally, this Lombardi 850 Grand Prix comes with its order form, sales invoice and original registration document, as well as three sets of keys and several catalogues and instruction leaflets. This is a unique opportunity to acquire this model, which is impossible to find and will stand out at any historic meeting, as well as offering the exhilarating feeling of driving a light and agile car.
