After covering more than 200,000 km in his 1983 Golf GTI, its owner resigned himself to replacing it in 1994 with an exclusive VR6 model, bought from a Volkswagen dealer in Saint-Etienne, as the original order form confirms. He chose metallic black paintwork and various desirable options including an electric sunroof, electronic climate control and fog lamps. To enjoy its performance to the full, he naturally opted for a manual gearbox. Since then, a substantial file of invoices attest to the care taken throughout the life of the car, which has covered only 67,124 km from new; the increase in its mileage can be seen from the different safety inspection reports since it was new, as well as in the service book, which is stamped up until 2012 at 56,762 km. The Golf has not been driven regularly for the past decade, but has been properly stored in the owner’s basement alongside his Porsche 924 Turbo; it will start, but will need a full service before taking to the road again. The specification of this version makes it a sought-after modern classic, especially as with its clear history and low mileage it has everything it needs to establish a strong future as a classic.
