At the end of the 1940s, the trend for microcars was growing. It was then necessary to offer small and affordable cars after the war, which would be more comfortable than two wheelers. The mechanical part would be the same though, since the Isetta is powered by a two-stroke motorcycle engine. It was introduced in 1953 at the Turin Motor Show by the Iso brand and impressed many with its unique front door that also takes the steering wheel with it! Licences were then sold to BMW for the German market and to Velam for the French market. These latter ones were produced in Suresnes between 1955 and 1958.

This particular model was sold new in 1956 to Henri Maurice Duchard, who resided on Rue de Constantine in the 7th district in Paris, as evidenced by the certificate of conformity. It was the perfect car for driving and parking perpendicular to the pavement in narrow streets of the capital! It was later found in the Yvelines where it was registered in 1963 and, then in 1964 by a certain Fernand Lafarge who kept it for more than 40 years (the registration document was changed in 1968 into his wife’s name).

The current owner acquired it in 2015; he then had it restored completely (restoration file) and gave it to his wife for her birthday. This was a particularly meaningful gift, since she used to go on holiday as a child with her sister to visit her grandfather in Bremen (Germany) and the latter would take them on trips in his BMW Isetta! It’s now time to hand it over to another lover of originality!
