The “Gold Star” denomination is one of the most famous in BSA history. It appeared in 1938 after Wal Handley’s victory the previous year at Brooklands while riding a BSA Empire Star at over 160 km/h (100 mph), which earned him a “gold star” (a gold medal). The Gold Star single-cylinder engine was then declined by BSA in several displacements and did equip motorcycles of all kinds, from touring to trail or cross.

This particular B50 is one of the final evolutions of this famous aluminium single-cylinder engine with overhead valves. Producing 34 hp at 6,200 rpm, it is fitted in a single cradle frame duplicated under the engine and of which the lower casing is protected by a skid plate. The raised exhaust has an elegant grille and this model has a high front mudguard, specific to off-road machines. This motorcycle was repainted in the past in iridescent grey, a colour that blends superbly with the aluminium of mechanical parts. Before entering the Panini collection, this motorcycle was in Italy for a long time and was then registered in the Bologna region. The overall condition of this Gold Star pays tribute to one of the most famous models of this brand with crossed rifles.
