The second generation of the S-Class, the W126 succeeded the W116 and was Mercedes’ top of-the-range model. It introduced many innovations, especially in terms of safety.

This example is a 280 S model, powered by the 2.8-litre six-cylinder engine in carburettor form, which was only available on the phase 1 cars, recognisable by their ribbed lower door panels.

Finished in ‘Classic White’ (737G) with a grey cloth interior, it has numerous options: a four-speed automatic gearbox, rev counter, automatic climate control, electric windows, green-tinted heat-absorbing glass, a radio and electric seats. The height of luxury, the rear-seat passengers had curtains to the side and rear windows. This luxurious saloon is in impressive original condition, helped by its low mileage of just 15,988km when we inspected it. The bodywork is superb, with perfectly aligned panels, and when you step inside, the interior appears like new. Under the bonnet, the engine is still protected by paraffin wax and has its original stickers, which in most cases come unstuck with the heat.
