It is interesting to note that this car is a Lorraine and not a Lorraine-Dietrich, as the firm had been known as ‘La Lorraine’ since 1927 after losing a trial against de Dietrich. This is a Coupé de Ville and is most likely unique. As an original period registration document indicates, it was registered in 1937 in the name of M. Duhaut from Lunéville, where the company’s factories were located. The owner of a transport business, Duhaut kept his ‘coupé chauffeur’ until 1964, and the car was subsequently sold to a M. Glatier in 1968, when it still had its registration number from the original period: 2625KU2. Glatier began stripping down the car to restore it, removing the radiator, engine and gearbox, as can be seen in photographs from 1969. Our client bought the car in this condition from Glatier’s widow in 1996. The engine, gearbox and radiator are still present, on a pallet, and the parts which had been removed are inside the car. This superb restoration project, started 56 years ago, deserves to be completed at last; enthusiasts will see it as the exceptional collector's item it is.
