Fournier – Marcadier, c’est l’histoire d’une rencontre avec Colin Chapman (fondateur de Lotus) et de deux hommes qui voulaient rendre le sport automobile abordable. Leur première barquette vit le jour en 1963 avec pour recette un châssis tubulaire, une carrosserie en polyester et une mécanique simple mais robuste. Ils créèrent ainsi la première voiture de sport française à monter en KIT, soi-même ! Le succès fut immédiat et les différents modèles de la marque s’illustrèrent maintes fois en compétition. Le coupé Barzoï est l’évolution de la barquette à laquelle on a ajouté un toit et des portes papillons. Lorsque Aurélien, le célèbre présentateur de Wheeler Dealer et grand amateur de sportives françaises en fibre, l’a dénichée, il y a une quinzaine d’années, la voiture sillonnait les courses de côte. Il procéda alors à une restauration totale jusqu’à la mise à nue du châssis. Equipée du moteur Gordini 1.300cm3 en position centrale arrière, ne pesant que 540kg et montée avec des suspensions triangulées (en option à l’époque), ce coupé respire la compétition ! Bien que la carte grise mentionne l’année 1962, ce Barzoï a tout l’air d’être une première série, fabriqué entre 1967 et 1969, à seulement 30 exemplaires. Une remise en route sera nécessaire, après un arrêt de 2 ans, avant de profiter de ce petit bolide taillé pour les routes sinueuses !

Fournier – Marcadier: this is the story of a meeting with Colin Chapman (founder of Lotus) and two men who wanted to make motorsport affordable. Their first racing car was launched in 1963, featuring a tubular chassis, a polyester bodywork and simple yet robust mechanics. They therefore created the first French sports car that could be self-assembled as a KIT! It was an instant success and the brand's various models proved themselves time and again on the race track. The Barzoï coupe is an evolution of the open-top sports car, with the addition of a roof and gullwing doors. When Aurélien (the famous presenter of Wheeler Dealer and a great enthusiast of French fiberglass sports cars) unearthed it some fifteen years ago, the car was competing in hill climb races. He then restored it completely, going as far as stripping the chassis down to its bare metal. Fitted with a mid-rear-mounted 1,300cc Gordini engine, weighing just 540kg and equipped with wishbone suspension (an optional extra at the time), this coupe is made for racing! Although the registration document states the year 1962, this Barzoï looks very much like an example from the first series (produced between 1967 and 1969) of which only 30 units were made. It will be necessary to get it running again after the car has been stationary for two years, in order to enjoy this little machine perfectly suited for winding roads!
