Cette 1900 CSS fut produite le 4 avril 1957 puis vendue le 3 juin 1957 à la Cotonificio Lampugnani à Milan. En 1967, alors qu’elle était toujours à Milan, la voiture appartient à un certain Angelo Motta qui la conserva jusqu’en 1985. C’est alors le pilote italien Comte Giovanni Lurani Cernuschi qui en devient propriétaire. Le comte, durant sa carrière de pilote, a pris part à de nombreuses courses majeures avant et après-guerre dont les 24h du Mans, la Targa Florio et les Mille Miglia. En 1990, la voiture est vendue à un certain U. Colombo, également résidant à Milan. En 2015, la voiture est achetée aux enchères par un marchand italien. Ce dernier la revend quelques mois plus tard au propriétaire actuel.

Cette Super Sprint arbore aujourd’hui un superbe état de présentation, une peinture de grande qualité a été appliquée il y a plus d’une décennie, très probablement en Italie. L’intérieur également présente un état de conservation étonnant, les sièges en skaï et tissus ne présentent que très peu d’usure, il est possible que l’ensemble de l’intérieur soit toujours celui d’origine. Le moteur est du bon type AR1308 pour le modèle et correspond également à l’année de production de la voiture, il est fort probable qu’il soit celui d’origine. La voiture est aujourd’hui accompagnée d’un « libretto » datant de 1967, de sa carte FIVA, du certificat ASI ainsi que de son « certificato di origine » Alfa Romeo.

Modèle d’une rare élégance, ayant eu un propriétaire illustre, la 1900 CSS présentée saura certainement séduire les initiés de la marque à la recherche d’une voiture originale et chargée d’histoire. Ayant pratiquement passée six décennies à Milan, entre les mains d’un nombre de propriétaires restreint, elle fait aujourd’hui partie de la collection d’un amateur soigneux et pointu. Le prochain propriétaire sera donc le garant d’une pièce d’histoire importante de la firme d’Arese.

This 1900 CSS was built on 4 April 1957 and then sold on 3 June 1957 to the Cotonificio Lampugnani in Milan. In 1967, when the car was still in Milan, it belonged to Angelo Motta, who kept it until 1985. It was at this point that the Italian racing driver Count Giovanni Lurani Cernuschi became its owner. During his career, the count had taken part in several major races before and after the war, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Targa Florio and the Mille Miglia. In 1990, the car was sold to U. Colombo, also in Milan.

In 2015, the car was purchased in an auction by an Italian dealer. The latter sold it a few months later to its current owner.

 

This Super Sprint is today in superb condition; it was repainted to a very high standard more than ten years ago, most likely in Italy. The interior is also in amazingly well-preserved condition: the seats trimmed in cloth and leatherette show very little wear and it is possible that the complete interior may be original. The engine is of the correct type (AR1308) for the model and also corresponds to the car’s year of production; it is very likely the original unit. The car comes today with a ‘libretto’ dating from 1967, its FIVA card and ASI certificate, as well as its ‘certificato di origine’ from Alfa Romeo.

 

An exceptionally elegant model, with a distinguished previous owner, this 1900 CSS will be certain to appeal to connoisseurs of the make who are looking for an original and historic car. After spending nearly six decades in Milan, with a limited number of owners, it is currently part of the collection of a meticulous and exacting enthusiast. Its next owner will therefore become the custodian of an important part of Alfa Romeo’s history.
